Ellen DeGeneres and George W. Bush Get Their Freak On

If you haven’t yet read “A Year in the Company of Freaks,” there’s no better time to read this culturally relevant book than now — and for a very limited time you can purchase the paperback on Amazon for only $4.09!

Why do I say “Freaks” is culturally relevant? Well, I woke up this morning to see a viral photo of talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres having a friendly conversation with former President George W. Bush at a Dallas Cowboys’ football game on Oct. 6.  When DeGeneres received hateful flak on social media for admitting her friendship with Bush, she replied, “We’re all different … that’s ok. When I say be kind to one another, I don’t mean be kind to the people who think the same way you do. I mean be kind to everyone.”

In reading this, if you experienced a little leap of hope in your heart that people of different social/political persuasions can not only come together on other life issues, but even be friends, then you’ll love the plot, character arcs and life lessons in Freaks. After all, we’re living the fruits of the 1960’s and 70’s and what happened then in America is still alive and well today — times 100. So grab some Kambucha, stoke a fire, kick your bare feet up, and get your freak on!
